Orinda's Walk Against Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Reagan and Zoe's Walk Against Breast Cancer was founded in 2013 when Reagan and Zoe were seventh graders at Orinda Intermediate School. They were assigned a "take action project" that required they identify an issue in their community, and take measures to improve it. At the time, Reagan's mother had been battling Breast Cancer. The girls choose that issue and decided they wanted to do something that would leave a real impact on their community. After some research, they learned how important living a healthy lifestyle and early detection are in surviving and avoiding breast cancer.

They decided to organize a walk because it would encourage exercise and become an opportunity to provide education about Breast Cancer. Along the trail, they hung up posters containing statistics about Breast Cancer, along with Breast Cancer prevention methods and facts.

All the funds raised from the walk were donated to the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center in Oakland. The money specifically went to help women that could not afford mammograms.

After the great success of the first walk, they decided to make it an annual event. Over the past five years, they have raised over $20,000 for the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center.

This year Reagan and Zoe are seniors in high school. To celebrate their last year planning the walk they are holding a commencement ceremony!
