On February 14th, 2018 our 14-year-old daughter Jaime Guttenberg, along with 16 other victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School were tragically murdered by a troubled former student. Orange Ribbons For Jaime will honor our daughter by supporting programs that were important to her, as well as those dedicated to pursuing common sense gun safety reforms. ORFJ will support the following charities this year: Jacob’s Pillow, Paley Institute, and Broward County Humane Society.
Jaime’s passion was dancing, that is why we are supporting Jacob’s Pillow: an organization that supports dance creation, presentation, education, and preservation. Jaime also loved helping others and aspired to be an occupational therapist when she was older. Therefore, we chose to support the Paley Institute, whose mission is the transform the lives of children and adults who suffer from rare and challenging congenital, developmental and post-traumatic orthopedic conditions throughout the United States and the world. Lastly, Jaime had a huge heart and loved animals. After the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, therapy dogs were brought to MSD to help relieve stress; seeing how valuable this was made us want to support the Broward Humane Society. The Humane Society of Broward County is committed to supporting its community with a variety of clinic, behavior & training, and shelter services that benefit Broward County’s residents and promote animal welfare throughout South Florida.
Orange Ribbons For Jaime is a 501(C)(3) foundation whose purpose is to support causes important to Jaime in life, but also causes that deal with the way her life was tragically cut short. We look to make donations in the world of dance, and to organizations that deal with bullying and serve children with special needs.
