O.P.T. YOUTH - LGBT Mentoring

$13,391 of $22,000 goal

O.P.T. Youth  (Out. Proud. Together.) is a one-to-one mentoring program providing services to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) youth in the Houston Metropolitan area. This is a program that matches interested youth with adults in a collaborative process, with a specific focus on middle and high school aged LGBT students.

For our LGBT family, think back to your teenage years and ask yourself if it would have been easier to have a mentor available to you? Someone who understands, who has gone through a similar situation, and who truly cares and can be there for you to help you through this challenging time in your life? This is what we want to provide to our youth. We want to reinforce the importance of education, solid friendships, and supportive and healthy relationships.

How can you help? We have filed and received our non-profit status with the State of Texas, our IRS tax-exempt status as 501(c)(3) organization, but we need funds to pay for business fees (website, background and drug screening checks for all mentors, printed materials) and other costs associated with the start-up of a non-profit organization.

We hope that you will find it in your heart to help and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

We had a great mentor orientation and training session on August 15, 2015, and we wanted to share some photos. What a great group of mentor applicants! They asked very thought provoking questions and were very engaged. The feedback they provided will help us improve the next training session. Thank you for participating!
