Hi! We are the Archer family from Bobcaygeon.
We decided a couple weeks after our son Sterling was born (January 2018) that we wanted a change... we want to be the change we want to see in the world.... Delilah is at an age (2 in July) where she is curious about everything and so we have decided to downsize our lives and give her more of our time in nature.
We have decided to sell/give away all of our belongings and move out to Vancouver Island and give the west coast a chance to set roots. We will be documenting our journey on social media and prove that your dreams are possible.
Originally we agreed that we will head out in June in our 2005 Dodge Dakota that could potentially break down....leave the dogs (for retrieval when we are settled) and car camp across the country..embracing the adventure. Our dreams progressed which lead us to imagine maybe being able to afford a motor home so we could bring our dogs. INCREDIBLY, a bus came up on KIJIJI for $1500 so we jumped at the chance to be part of the Skoolie community .
The money we raise here will go to getting the logistics completed in TORONTO and then everything to make her safe for the kids and dogs to travel and make her off grid...solar power system, batteries, water filtration etc.
So why we think you should fund us when you have anyone in the world to give money to? Honestly? Because we are examples of having hope when there isnt any. Its a long story that would take days to tell.... and i hope through this GoFundMe campaign to potentially raise enough money to take our time and properly document the journey of choosing to set out on dreams of childhood. ..and maybe share how we got here.
You see, I, Amanda, always wanted to live near the whales and when I found out my biological father lived on a boat off vancouver island I wanted to go all that much more. 3 years ago I went and met him...the journey can be seen at fullcircleadventure.blogspot.com. He was everything I had hoped he would be and all I wanted was more time to get to know him. Since my return home I have had 2 children and have wanted nothing more than to return for him to meet them. Finances continue to plague us... we need to live where the winters arent so difficult financially and we need a fresh start. We want to raise our children in the kind of environment the West coast provides.
James'dad died when he was 2 days old and Amanda's mom died when she was 20. We both know that life is short. And that we have to seize opportunity when it comes.
We have this small window with parental leave and child tax benefit that we can float ourselves until October... so whether we drive directly across the country or can raise enough money to take our time and explore more... we will be settled in Nanaimo by October.
The questions are..do you want to help a young family follow their dreams? Do you want to help us be able to bring our dogs? Do you want to help us travel in a more reliable vehicle? Do you want to see what a difference a change of environment can have on a young family?
