Our organization is dedicated to giving individuals with special needs a place to work, grow and thrive.
Our organization is establishing a resale/thrift store benefitting adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) to work/volunteer. We are collecting gently used items that we clean, repair, and/or paint for resale. We also develop an individual's unique ability and assist them with starting their own micro-business within the store. We believe our adults with disabilities have such potential that is untapped and unrecognized. We will invite the greater community in to shop, interact and engage with our individuals. Our I/DD individuals will be front and center of the shop. They will greet customers with sign language (as well as orally) and engage in appropriate conversation. Our organization will provide additional classes for I/DD persons to Dress for Success, How to Engage a Customer, Anti-Bullying, Self-Esteem, to name a few.
The funds will go toward fixing up and leasing of a building location. The organization has been blessed with many donated items, we now need funding to find a building to begin our new adventure. This is our only obstacle, up at this point . We need funding immediately.
I, Julie McCoy, am the Chairperson of the Board of Directors. Myself and other persons involved are all volunteers. We do not receive any monies for our work. I/DD individuals will begin as volunteers as well, but will work into a paid position when the organization shows a profit. We want our I/DD adults to feel a sense of community and pride of their accomplishements.
