Help Restore Relationships Wounded At War
Operation Healing Forces is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to America’s Special Operations Forces (SOF) who have served at the tip of the spear in our Nation’s battle to defeat violent extremists around the world. Our work focuses on helping to restore the relationships wounded by the call of duty faced by Special Operators.
Many SOF return home ill, injured or wounded, and feel disconnected from the ones they love due to their new reality, time spent apart, and the every day struggle to deal with the many horrific events they’ve witnessed while protecting our freedom. Due to their demanding standards and many-years-long training, there are very few SOF operators. That is why they return to battle repeatedly despite the cost to their health and families.
Currently, SOF has the highest divorce and suicide rates in its history due to years of sustained combat and other deployments. SOF are experiencing more brain injuries, PTS, suicides, cancer, depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders than ever before. Helping them reconnect with their spouses after the trauma they experience on the battlefield is paramount to their recovery.
We are hoping to raise $1 million to help pay expenses associated with hosting 111 weeklong therapeutic retreats for small groups of SOF couples from 2017 through 2019. Partnering with US Special Operations Command’s Warrior Care Program, the goal of OHF retreats is to enable these war-torn men and women to break through the silence, let down their guard in a protected environment, and understand that it is appropriate (and not a stigma) to seek help, support and guidance.
All retreats are conducted by OHF staff who are former operators themselves, so they are trusted and able to facilitate memories, create conversations, and share experiences these operators would otherwise never do. Likewise, the loved ones they left at home suffer deeply as well. By bringing them together in a safe, secure environment, we help facilitate the process of mental, physical and emotional healing.
Through your generosity, we can help these American heroes and their spouses help each other heal from wounds both visible and invisible. Your support is the first step to helping them get on the right path to recovery.
