Let's supply a Korean orphanage with rice for a YEAR!
Last week, some American expats in Korea volunteered to host a Thanksgiving dinner for 65 children, ages 3 to 18, in the Sungyook Orphanage in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. While speaking with the caretakers, they found that the home urgently needed several basic things, such as staple foods, washing machines, hygiene products, and clothing. They asked for these things instead of Christmas gifts for the children as they were a priority for the health and wellness of the kids.
We want to go above and beyond and not just make things easier for them at Christmas. We want to cover them for the whole year of 2018. It would be such a relief for everyone involved having many of their basic needs met.
First step, we're going to cover the year's supply of rice. They go through roughly 250kg of rice per month. For a year's worth, it will cost about $6000 USD. While the shopping list is long, this is our first goal.
Let's break this down.
Rice for 1 kid for 1 year: $92.30
Rice for 1 kid for 6 months: $46.15
Rice for 1 kid for 1 month: $7.69
Rice for 1 kid for 1 day: $0.26
Right now we are sourcing local rice, so this project supports our local farmers, too! Smaller carbon footprints mean a lot in here, where we are constantly fighting the battle for clean air.
Our goal is to be able to 100% commit to paying for the year's rice by the end of December. We know that the holiday season is really draining on budgets, but please know that even a small donation and a share on social media will help these kids by leaps and bounds.
If you're giving in lieu of a gift for someone, let us know and we'll be happy to send a card on your behalf!
Thank you so much for your time, support, and generosity. 감사합니다!
