Latino families'fire relief efforts

Many of Napa County’s documented and undocumented immigrant families are IN CRISIS and are relying on Puertas Abiertas Community Resource Center for help
In the most trying times, “never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Those words by the late Margaret Mead could not ring truer during these difficult times for the community of Napa County. The North Bay fires have been devastating and everyone in our community has been impacted in one form or another. We feel incredibly grateful for the outpouring support we have received by organizations and individuals. We want to especially thank our First Responders and all the community-based organizations who from the start and up till now have made the safety and health of our community their number one priority. Although we have a long road of healing and recovery, we remain hopeful and focused on weaving our community back together. We thank you wholeheartedly for your gift of service to others.

Addressing the needs of our underserved community, Puertas Abiertas has  increased its  services to include a PA Mini Distaster Relief Center.    Our clients are finding themselves under greater stress now with this fire disaster, they've become much more fearful  in accessing needed services for fear of their permanant status being questioned.

·    Your donation will help pay for services focused on stablizing families while recovering from the fires

·      Your donation will help pay for the cost of recovering lost or distroyed documents,

·       Your donation will help pay for gas cards (transportation) as many are needing to work at more than one job

·       Your donation will help pay for emergency rent for a family in need due to a displacement or loss of wages

·      Your donation will help buy  emergency food, clothing, and necessary personal items  .

We are all  friends and neighbors, all of which have been affected  by the valley's devestating fires.

We ask for your support in our recovery efforts!

Please join us in  raising funds to assist those affected by the fires and who are seeking assistance at Puertas Abiertas. Help us to help them.

Together, we can act and support Latino residents in need, they work, contribute and live in our community.

Since 2005, Puertas has been providing essential services for those in need.

·       In 2015, Puertas counseled over 1,700 people who required access to health care as well as social and educational services.

·       94% of clients identify as Latino.

·       Immigrants in Napa County contribute over $1 billion to the local economy; however, 72 percent have an annual income of less than $25,000.

·       Only 30% of Napa County’s immigrants have become citizens. Citizenship is correlated with higher family income, higher educational attainment for children of immigrants, higher proficiency in English and more active engagement in community affairs.
Please donate today-no amount is too small.

Help spread the word!
