Student to Student Learning through Giving

ABOUT

http://www.onemindethiopia.org/

One Mind at a Time is a group of high school students dedicated to improving the lives of Ethiopian children by giving them access to the best possible education. The group believes that by working in coordination with a select school, we can work on promoting education in Ethiopia and unlocking every student's full potential, one mind at a time.

It all started when...

In December of 2015, our group member Jack Kappelman visited Ethiopia with his father, Dr. Kappelman, going to the archaeological research site Dr. Kappelman runs. When Jack was there, he was moved by experiences he had with students in the area.

One of the first interactions he had with the local children was when he drove through the town of Aykel with his father's group. Three little boys came up to the car and waived at him, and Jack noticed that the toy car they had was a plastic gas can with plastic lids as wheels and a string to pull it with. Jack had brought some old toys to give to kids, and gave the three boys some matchbox cars. The experience was one of the motivating factors that led to the formation of One Mind at a Time.

One of the founding ideas of One Mind at a Time is to provide Ethiopian children with resources that they currently lack. While Jack was there, he was moved by the experiences he had with some of the local kids. He was struck by the poverty that he faced, and though he had given out the toys he had brought for children there, he wanted to do more.
OUTLINE AND GOALS
One Mind at a Time plans to supply one school in the villages of either Aykel or Gundawoojha with support catered to the selected school's needs. With a budget of  $8,000 USD the group can supply the school with a variety of materials, ranging from classroom chalkboards, to textbooks, or even a school computer. 100% of donations will go towards the project, as each team member is paying for their own plane ticket and in-country costs.

The supplies to be purchased will only be determined after meeting with the school's headmaster and looking at the specific needs of the school. All supplies that are readily available will then be purchased in the city of Gondar, from suppliers contacted before the group leaves, so the group knows what is readily available.

Any and all donations are currently being accepted through the website GoFundMe.com. If you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to contact us!
