One Penny At A Time

Canadians Helping Canadians One Penny At A Time!
Our mission at The Tima Collection is to celebrate Canada’s 150th with purpose! We want to celebrate this beautiful country by helping Canadians help Canadians and giving our patrons an opportunity to make a difference while supporting Canadian art and craft, as well as Canadian small business. We strive to operate by generating living wage jobs while creating limited edition truly Canadian keepsakes from Canadian pennies. We will feature the 1967 Centennial penny designed by Canadian artist Alex Colville (1920-2013) while generating enough profit to donate to Canadians in need with a focus on remote indigenous communities, in the spirit of healing and reconciliation. We have partnered with Growing North a not for profit company who have been building green houses in the far North of Canada in communities facing food insecurity.

“Food insecurity isn't just a Northern issue, it's a Canadian issue.”

I have been making jewelry from Canadian pennies and wanted to market my wares using Canada 150th . I saw this as an opportunity to make a difference by donating funds generated to a cause that is truly Canadian.

I  will be donating retail profits from 10% of our 1967 centennial penny stock to this cause. That means we have 500 centennial pennies ready to make into beautiful keepsakes for you or a loved one while helping you help Canadians facing food insecurity. Once we run out of these we will continue the campaign by asking you to check that penny jar you still have at home and send us your centennial penny or any penny of your choice, (pennies with birth dates make great gifts) and we will continue to help you help Canadians! This way I create work for my employees, help my small business and donate the retail profit of 50% of the sale price  to not for profit “Growing North” founded by young Canadians Stefany Nieto and Benjamin Canning in 2013.

Currently, 63% of families in Nunavut live in food insecurity due to harsh climates.

The price of vegetables and fruits in Nunavut is around 4 times more than the average price of fruits and vegetables.

Growing North help to combat food insecurity in Northern Canada through Arctic Greenhouses. They “provide fresh, locally grown produce to families living in Northern Canada, at a fraction of the price it’s currently being sold for.

Their methods stem directly from community identified issues and result in positive social, economic and environmental change with a focus on the long term sustainability.

They aim to provide low cost, locally grown produce to families in northern Canada through the construction of a geodesic greenhouse dome.
They began this venture in Naujaat, Nunavut, a community on the Arctic Circle.

With temperatures averaging below -30°C, produce is nearly impossible to grow outdoors. This leaves only inefficient and costly methods of transporting produce into this part of our country.

In Nunavut 35.1% of the population lives in severe food insecurity. Growing North’s original and primary focus is to alleviate food insecurity within Northern Canadian communities by improving the accessibility to food.

Growing North is a solution to this problem and we want you to help us help these young visionary Canadians continue this important work.
