Omar Mokhtari--Medical needs

Donation protected
Our dear friend maestro Omar Mokhtari is in need of help from our community right now. He was diagnosed with cancer and has just undergone an operation at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland. He is recovering presently, and is surrounded by loved ones.

We are hoping to raise at least $20,000 dollars to help with medical co-pays, transportation, and alternative health care during this crucial recovery process.

You may have met Omar at Lark in The Morning, Sweet's Mill, or WOMAD, and witnessed him play mandola, banjo, guitar or drums. If you have heard his deep voice, its not easily forgotten.

Omar was born in Algeria, North Africa, where his is considered a national treasure. He was raised in a completely self-sufficient community of Berbers (the indigenous people of North Africa). He was a young boy during the revolution against France and supported the Algerian resistance.

Omar is a master musician and a profound singer who proudly carries on the traditions and music of his people. He has led workshops, performed in concerts and taught private students for over 35 years in America, and also has worked as an electrical engineer, pilot, carpenter, cafe owner, caterer and much more.

Anyone who has met Omar has assuredly been touched by his gentle and regal nature.  Always courteous, soft spoken and welcoming, he brings with him the gift of music, wit, and deep historical perspective.

If you have anything to share, including knowledge, time, or resources, now is the time to step up and give back to our friend Omar.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
