It is with a very heavy heart, I write this about my niece, Olivia.

Olivia, a sweet, kind, silly eight-year-old girl, who loves soccer and unicorns, went to the ER for ongoing pain in her shoulder. We thought it was a simple snowboarding injury but it was that visit, that changed our lives.

After several MRI’s, the Doctors found a “bump” as we call it, in her spinal cord. This led to Olivia undergoing surgery, which lasted 14 hours, where the Neurosurgeon tried to remove as much of “the bump” as he could and biopsy it.

We knew recovery would be a long road ahead, but we were not prepared for what came from that biopsy. On March 1st 2019, Liv was diagnosed with a very aggressive grade IV Diffuse Midline Glioma. This is extremely fast growing, very rare and is inoperable; at this time, there is no known cure. The family is exploring all options including clinical trials. As a result of the surgery, Olivia lost sensation in her right arm and leg so she’s needing physical therapy to try to regain her strength and movement. To help keep Liv comfortable and to slow down “the bumps” rapid growth, she will start undergoing radiation treatments.

Those who know Olivia, her younger brother Jack, and her parents Brian & Emma, know how special this family is- they are selfless, giving, kind, hard-working and this sudden diagnosis has been devastating for the entire family.

In addition to a miracle, we need the support, prayers, and funds to help The Lipnicky Family through these rough days ahead with their daughter, our precious girl, Olivia. We are requesting funds as soon as possible to help with all aspects of her treatments. Any small donation would go a long way to save her and help the family.

We also need to build awareness and funds for research for this rare disease – there has been little progress in improving treatments and cure rates over the years.

Sincerely,

The proudest Aunt there ever was xoxo #FightLikeaUnicorn

Another Liv update! Yesterday we had our first post radiation/ surgical mri. Our rockstar had to lay in the mri machine for over 3 hours. She did it with no sedation which is normally unheard of. We got the results back and her tumor has shrunk! We feel very lucky because some similar tumors are not receptive to radiation.

We still have a very long road ahead of us. On Wednesday we start the process of a clinical trial, but today we are celebrating this victory.

Thank you again for everyone’s support, we are beyond grateful.

Liv update! After 28 sessions today is the last day of radiation!!!Liv has been a champ and so brave through all of this. We couldn’t have gotten through the past few weeks without the help of our family, amazing friends, and Brian’s work family. When your life is turned upside down it’s hard to let people know what you need because honestly I don’t know what we need. Thank you to everyone who has shown us what we needed by helping with Jack, dropping off meals, flowers, treats for the kids and organizing fundraisers.
Next week we will meet with Livs team at CHOP and starting to pack for a fun filled two weeks in Disney. When we get back we will be starting a clinical trial out of NYU.
Thank you everyone for your support!

“Be thankful for today, because in one moment, your entire life can change.”

Our lives have been forever changed since Liv’s diagnosis. We are living just one day at a time and are trying to enjoy each moment. Brian and I cannot put into words how grateful we are for the amazing support we have received from our families, neighbors, colleagues, school and community. I wish we could thank everyone individually, please know every single thing is appreciated and has given us the opportunity to spend every minute with our fighter. As we continue down this journey we do not know what the future holds, but we are getting through this as a family and are holding on to hope. Liv has been so incredibly brave and has met each obstacle head on. She is such a special kid and truly amazes us every day.
