Oliver has been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing disorder may 2016. Oliver is non-verbal and struggles with daily tasks we all do without thinking from eating on his own to getting dressed himself to asking for a drink Oliver is not able to do these things. Oliver has one or two words he can use out of context or in context but these words can change. Oliver loves dogs and loves running with dogs when we are out.
Oliver responds well to the dogs and the love in his eyes for them is gorgeous to see.
Me and alex was then told about special dogs for autistic children and adults so we began to look in to this, we found a charity called autism life dogs, and they have explained how the dogs get special training and how they help autistic children the lady I spoke to has a child on the sprectrum herself and has a dog and the difference it has made is unbelieveable and other story's I have read have all been so positive and the dog is their friend for life. Help reduce anxiety and can help the child to say commands to the dog and teach childeren road safety and much much more.
We understand every child and story is different but we think having a friend for life dog for Oliver would give him his first friend and maybe to teach him to trust and bond with animals and maybe us humans too. It may even encourage speach which would be the most amazing feeling.
It will be life changing and could have a huge positive impact in Olivers life which has made us prepared to do anything to try and make this possible for Oliver.
