Oli goes to the Jungle
So I went Veggie on 5th November for 50 days (till Christmas day) to raise money for Guildford People to People, who do tireless work helping people of the Calais Jungle. You helped me reach the target of £500 easily, thank you all very much!
But I'm not stopping there....
So in late January/early Febuary 2016, I will be going to the Jungle to volunteer for a week (or so). Therefore, if you didn't contribute to my vegetarianism (I know there were plenty of you!) then you have another opportunity to give....
I will be self-funding the majority of the trip myself, but any further financial donations would be used to help buy things that those in the Jungle need (such as construction materials and tools, tents, food and essentially any items needed for a basic level of survival). The conditions are rapidly deteriorating as winter takes hold, hence more sophisticated shelter is needed, sanitary systems need to be built, warmer clothes need to be distributed and hot meals need to be cooked. I will be helping out with all of these tasks so money towards purchasing the necessary items will be vital.
Whatever your politics, there is no way anyone deserves to live in the squalid conditions that those in the Jungle find themselves in. But helping these people requires a joint effort. I may be going and giving some time, but you can help too by giving money.
