The Ole Miss Model United Nations team will again be representing our beloved university in New York City this March. Throughout the first semester, we were carefully cultivating a team from the hardest working participants, requiring hard work and harder decisions but resulting in an irreplicable synergy amongst the chosen delegates.
The dedication of our fellow students has ensured that the University of Mississippi consistently places in the top ten percent of delegates in attendance. Because of our recurrent high performance, we are given priority in country selection and have earned a strong reputation in the NMUN community. As appreciable as our accolades may be, the individual development delegates experience during our week in New York City are worth infinitely more. We network, problem solve, practice time management, and develop public speaking as well as conversational skills. From the firm handshake upon meeting a fellow delegate to the adjournment of the closing ceremony, bonds form quickly by necessity and last well beyond the closing ceremony by choice.
The National Model United Nations conference we attend is based on a concept replicated worldwide; despite the qualifer of "national" in the title, college-aged individuals from France to Bahrain attend this prestigous assembly. Attending universities are assigned to represent a country, drafting resolutions and debating proposals in the spirit of their nation. The University of Mississippi is representing Canada this year.
This club is more than just another extracurricular activity; it holds deep and long lasting value to participants. We have spent countless hours working to build a foundation for a fulfilling and enriching conference experience, but none of these goals are possible without your help. It costs approximately $1,200 per canidate - a total of nearly $20,000 our moderate budget simply cannot cover - which goes toward flights, hotel fees, and we are hoping to take 16 incredibly deserving delegates this year. You have the opportunity to be involved in ensuring our continued growth in and through this conference.
We are ever greatful for your help in making our goals a reality again this year. Your belief in our team is more than an act of goodwill for promising and engaged students; it is an expression of conviction in future leaders.
