Old Pay Office Refurbishment for the Community

£850 of £40,000 goal

We are raising money to help fund refurbishment of our band headquarters building to make it a safe, welcoming environment for all. The building, which used to be the colliery pay office, is over 100 years old and is the last surviving evidence of the pit being there.

The estimate for carrying out the full refurbishment is approx £200,000 but we hope to be able to obtain Heritage Lottery Funding for the most part.

The building is owned by Easington Colliery Band (formed in 1915) and is our headquarters and rehearsal facility, we want to refurbish the building to bring it up to modern standards while still maintaining the original features where possible.

Once refurbished, we intend to open up the building to the community when not being used by the band. We are hoping to open up a cafe/coffee shop that would be open during the day for the use of local people and walkers from the England Coastal Path.
There will be other rooms that could be used by other community groups to hold meetings, exhibitions, seminars etc

We already have local people on board who currently run small coffee mornings in the building and exhibit photos of the pit and the people who lived and worked here.

If any local groups, residents or businesses would like to get involved, particularly with funding or interest in using the building, then please get in touch with by emailing     easington1915@gmail.com or through our Facebook page

Unfortunately we have been turned down again by the Lottery, very disappointed. We thought our application this year was very sound.

We are now applying for a Leader grant of £100,000 (we have to match fund £20,000 of this) and reduce the scope of the refurbishment work that we carry out in this phase.

We will be concentrating on getting the building up to a safe, pleasant standard, expanding the size of the band room, new accesses and creating the cafe area.

Thank you everyone who has donated so far. As you can see we still need more.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
