Ohio Roller Derby was founded in 2005 as Ohio Roller Girls, and was one of the original 30 leagues in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.
The league has worked hard over the past 12 year to continue to grow with in the sport. In 2011 the team competed at the WFTDA North Central Regional Playoff. The hard work has continued over the past seven years - as the the team has earned a spot every year since then to compete in what is now WFTDA D1/D2 International Playoffs.
On August 18, 2017 Ohio Roller Derby will be competing in Pittsburgh, PA at the 2017 International WFTDA D2 Playoffs & Championships. Seven countries will be represented at this tournament. Ohio will begin play on Friday at noon EST and will play at least 2 other games on Saturday and Sunday. Possibly more if they are victorious on Friday.
Having to take off work, travel and stay overnight for 3 nights can get costly for skaters. The league is hoping to offset those costs with your help. Hotels average $200 a night. That's over $600 just for hotel accomodations. This doesn't include cost of travel, food or other necessities of staying during the entire tournament. The skaters, coaches, officials and volunteers all pay their own way at these tournaments, no cost is covered by WFTDA.
We need your help! Our fans have been so supportive over the years - attending games and cheering us on to be a competitively ranked, international team. Now, we need a little more.
Please consider helping us raise funds to offset the cost of those travelling to compete. All funds will be used to reimburse league members on the cost of hotel and travel. AND if we raise additional funds it will help towards the 2018 season, so we can continue to be a successful roller derby team.
