More than 600 homes need repairs after the storm, but FEMA has denied the tribes request for aid.
A massive hail storm came through the reservation in July although it ran through the Pine Ridge Reservation. The town of Oglala received the most damage. Many houses have lost all the siding and windows on the sides that faced the storm.
Local churches and non-profits are working hard to repair houses before the weather gets worse. We are trying to get house wrap on all of the houses first, then we'll focus on broken windows, and then we can get to the siding.
Lakota Hope will use all funds raised to buy material or hire labor to repair these houses.
