Officer Dustin Behn has been a member of the Baltimore County Police Department for the past 9 years. He and his wife Lindsay have a beautiful 13-month-old girl named Scarlett and they could not be better parents. For the past few months Dustin has experienced unknown health problems. A follow up with his doctor led to being rushed to Carroll Community Hospital for an emergency blood transfusion. Dustin's body instantly rejected the blood transfusions causing him to be airlifted to John Hopkins Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Since then he has been diagnosed with TTP, a rare blood disorder that causes blood clots to form in small blood vessels throughout the body. The clots can limit or block the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the body's organs. It is unknown at this time what caused this to occur.
Dustin had to have a permanent tube placed into his throat and it will have to remain in his body in case future blood transfusions are needed. He has been staying at John Hopkins for the past two weeks and cannot be released until his numbers are stable. Lindsay, Scarlett, and family have been traveling everyday to be with Dustin during this time.
As you can imagine, expenses are beginning to add up and medical bills are continuing to grow. We ask that your thoughts and prayers stay with Dustin and his family at this time. Any and all donations are appreciated to help ease the stress so that they can focus on Dustin's full recovery.
