Officer Catherine Stewart

Officer Catherine Stewart has served her community for three decades with two different agencies in Charlotte County.  She has sacrificed so much for the community and now she is in a time of need for us to look after her.

In October of 2018, Officer Stewart went to the doctor for a simple pain in her back.  During the visit, she was diagnosed with a rare cancer called Multiple Myeloma.  This was just a short time after starting her second career with the Punta Gorda Police Department.

Multiple Myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Plasma cells help you fight infections by making antibodies that recognize and attack germs.

Multiple myeloma causes cancer cells to accumulate in the bone marrow, where they crowd out healthy blood cells. Rather than produce helpful antibodies, the cancer cells produce abnormal proteins that can cause complications.

Officer Stewart now has the responsibility of caring for her two children, along with this unforeseen illness, coupled with the financial burden to go with it.  Officer Stewart's Punta Gorda Police Department family began a campaign to allow officer's to wear goatees in support of her and to raise funds for her and her family. This campaign has been met with an outpouring of support by the community and a request to allow the community to donate funds to this cause.

The Punta Gorda Police Department would like to thank you for the love and support that you have shown for Officer Stewart and her family in their time of need.
