The Grow Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping empower people around the world through education. We have completed our year-long pilot project in rural Uganda and have seen the life-changing improvements it has brought to the community we work with. We funded a well that now supplies clean water in a safe location to the people in the surrounding community. Our next step is to build an educational compound- Tusubira Village
Tusubira - a word that means “HOPE” in Lusoga (the local language) - is a four acre educational compound in rural Uganda, outside of the city of Jinja. We have learned over the past year that the people of rural Uganda learn best by being able to actually see what it is they are meant to learn. Tusubira Village will provide exactly that- and more. The compound will sit in the middle of the community that we currently are working in, providing easy access to local residents- many who weren't able to be a part of our very successful pilot project. There will be trained people available to actually demonstrate how to build a new latrine, or a sanitation table to store cooking utensils, or to plant a proper garden. Tusubira Village will be just that- a place to come and learn, to practice, to ask questions. It will be an educational compound that will change the way people in this rural area live.
The first building we are constructing will serve as a general purpose building. It will host an on-site social worker, have a full working kitchen, a western style bathroom (no squat toilet here), 2 guest rooms for visiting volunteers, as well as a general meeting space.
This building is essential for continued progress in this community. It needs to be completed in order to move forward on our next action item, a nutritional porridge which will be sourced from the village’s own gardens, milled locally in town, and packaged for distribution in the only clean and enclosed space available - our building which is yet to be fully built. Kids in this community often don’t eat their first meal of the day until AFTER SCHOOL because they cannot afford to pay for school and send food as well. Can you imaging essentially fasting for the majority of your waking and working hours every single day? No! We want to solve that with these nutritional packets, the contents of which can be made into a simple yet nutritionally loaded porridge that kids can eat and subsequently get their needs met.
However, we need to complete this building in order to make that happen. The entire project will cost approximately $30,000 which includes structure, electricity, running water, plumbing and all furnishings. With your help we can get this first structure completed and really begin to make an impact on the future of this community.
