McKenna's Lesson in Goal Setting

Donation protected
McKenna is growing up.  She will be 12 this fall, and we have spent much of this year working on goal-setting and organization with her.   McKenna has taken on a lot of new adventures this year: learning to play the flute in addition to the piano, becoming part of the "leadership" program and participating in G.A.T.E. at school.   She has set difficult goals for herself and has achieved every one of them.
McKenna decided that AYSO soccer was not providing her with the experience she wanted, so she tried out for a soccer club in Carson City that is much more intense, but provides much better coaching and training to the athletes.  CPAC soccer focuses on making the girls successful at life, not just soccer.   CPAC was recently recognized by the governor of Nevada and given its own offical day in the state. As part of her training for CPAC, she needed to do an initial testing of her passing accuracy, her ball handling skills, her standing broad jump distance, number of sit-ups in 60 seconds, and her 1-mile time.   CPAC tests those metrics several times throughout the season to help the girls recognize progress and personal bests.   After her initial testing, McKenna set goals for improvement.  These including practicing 50 passes with each foot 3 times a week, running 3 miles three times a week, and doing an extensive strength training workout 3 times a week.  In 3 months, McKenna cut her mile time by three minutes, increased her standing broad jump by 12 inches, and improved her passing and dribbling skills significantly.  She did 56 sit-ups in 60 seconds (the highest number for any girl on her team).
CPAC Soccer has now been invited to participate in an international youth soccer tournament in Canada this summer as part of the FIFA Women's World Cup Tournament!  CPAC is the only team from the state of Nevada that has been invited to go.  It will include the opportunity to do inner-city service projects in addition to the soccer play, as well as attend 2 world cup matches and train with one of the international womens teams.  It is quite the opportunity. We feel that it will an incredible experience in goal-setting, working hard, and reaching out to others in less fortunate situations.
The trip to Canada has significant costs associated with it.   McKenna has set a goal to go with her team, but needs to collect around $2,000 to go on the trip.  She is working hard on her own doing extra chores, babysitting, and planning some additional work and fundraisers.   As her parents, we are proud of her efforts.  We want her to achieve her goals but aren't willing to simply provide her the funds for this activity.  We feel it will be more meaningful if she puts in the effort to make it happen.  McKenna has asked me to help her by reaching out to friends and family for support.
If you are local, McKenna is willing to come and earn money for her Canada trip.  If you are not local, McKenna would still appreciate your support as she works towards achieving her goals. Thank you!!
