Numa Designs: knitting campaign

We are working to support the women and girls that we met living in the villages of Guatemala. Finances are so limited for families that most of the families pay for the boys to attend school, but cannot spare the funds for the young girls, so they are left without an education.
This campaign is set up to raise money so we can work with Karen Castillo, a Lutheran pastor (ELCA) in Guatemala City. We will teach the skill of knitting and empower women to become small business owners.
When in Guatemala we will first connect with women in Maya Itza to help them set up their own hat knitting home-based businesses. The hats they knit will be sold online and in Minnesota.
The income earned will help the women and their families move out of poverty and will provide funds for their daughters to be educated, which mothers and fathers alike desire. The women staying at home knitting is acceptable to the families and is a perfect home-based business.
Once this project is up and running, we will also teach (female) students at a boarding school being built by the ELCA Lutheran church in Guatemala under the direction of Pastor Karen. This will provide confidence, an occupational skill and way of earning an income so the girls will be less likely to become child brides. This project will positively change the culture in Guatemala.
All funds raised from this campaign will be used by NUMA to support the entrepreneurial knitting project by purchasing supplies, sending instructors to Guatemala and teaching these women how to knit.
* EACH PERSON THAT DONATES $100+ WILL RECEIVE A FREE HAT TO GIVE THANKS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY.
*$100 will provide one woman with knitting needles and yarn to make and sell 15 hats. This will be the seed money that she needs to start her own small business.
