Hello Note-oriety family, friends, and fans! We are recording a brand new album and we need your help!!
Our Story
Note-oriety was founded in 1998 by Kelly Femenella and Bonnie Estes. For over two decades, Note-oriety has provided JMU women with a creative outlet and everlasting bonds of friendship and sisterhood. We pride ourselves on our dedication to empowerment through our music.
Every few years, we release an album to showcase our talent and progression as a group. Our last album, titled “XX” in honor of our 20th anniversary, earned several awards and accolades, including a 4 star rating from the Recorded A Cappella Review Board (RARB). In the past year alone, we have received praise from TLC and Kelly Clarkson, as well as prominent a cappella critics and experts! Over the years, we have been nominated for several CARA, AVA, and RARB awards, and in recent years have won "Album of the Year", "Song of the Year", "Best Female Collegiate Song", and "Best Female Collegiate Video", as well as other awards.
In the past, Note-oriety has been frequently recognized for our musical achievements in the JMU community and beyond. In 2015, our music video for "Pretty Hurts" received national acclaim when it went viral overnight! Several prominent news organizations covered the viral success of our music video as well as the positive and inspiring message the video conveyed, including Buzzfeed, USA Today, and The Huffington Post. The video was even shared by Nicki Minaj! Following the huge success of the "Pretty Hurts" music video, we were invited to perform at Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey's United State of Women Summit, which was a tremendous honor. In 2017, Note-oriety performed for the National Crittenton Foundation's "In Solidarity We Rise: Healing, Opportunity, and Justice for Girls" in Washington DC. In early 2018, Note-oriety was named one of The 10 Female Groups Running the A Cappella World by College Magazine. This past year, Note-oriety was invited to perform Christmas songs at the White House. Additionally, Note-oriety won third place at ICCA Quarterfinals (the same competition featured in "Pitch Perfect"). Needless to say, it has been a busy few years for us! All of these tremendous accomplishments were made possible thanks to the vital support of our friends and family. Looking forward, we hope to use the platform that we have to continue spreading positivity through our music.
With your help, we hope to put out an album full of music that inspires and empowers our listeners in both the JMU community and beyond. In our next musical release, we hope to showcase positive messages alongside our musical prowess and creativity. However, recording an album is expensive! An album costs us around $10,000 in total. This is a hefty price for college students to pay! We are already hard at work fundraising, but we can’t do it alone. Your generous contribution will help make our dream possible, and for that we are eternally grateful!
