We are a unit of Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets from Northmont High School in Clayton, Ohio. Our unit’s mission is to instill a sense of pride and leadership in young people to better prepare them for life after high school, whether it be in the military or in the civilian world. Our NJROTC unit was founded in 1996 with fewer than forty cadets. Now, enrollment for the unit has grown to over 120 cadets.
Over fifty percent of cadets in the unit participate on teams that compete throughout the school year. The unit’s teams consist of an Academics team, a Physical Fitness team, two Drill teams, a Rifle team, and two Exhibition Drill teams. This year’s teams have traveled to Columbus, Hamilton, Louisville, Indianapolis, and Chicago to compete against teams from across the Midwest. As the cadets have worked hard to prepare themselves for these competitions, they have worked equally hard for funds for these trips.
Our annual expenses exceed $22k. The cadets have raised funds in excess of $11K and find themselves short of their funding goals. Most of our cadet’s families struggle to fund their kids participation on these teams and that is why we are asking for your help.
Our cadets have, through winning the Area 3 Championships, earned the once-in-a-lifetime experience to attend Drill, Academic and Athletic Championship in Pensacola, Florida. The cost will exceed $20K which will, in turn, cost each of our cadets over $440.
We are looking to raise $10,000 to help cover costs for the transportation and accommodations for cadets, staff, and volunteer chaperones that will be going with them on this trip.
