Northeastern Special Spirit 2017
Donation protected
Special Spirit is a project created at UMass Lowell to give Special Olympic athletes the equality and equity of being able to play sports in a division one college-level environment! It has since been adopted at the University of New Hampshire, and this upcoming April 2017 we are bringing the event back to Northeastern University’s Solomon Court for the 2nd year! The goal of this program is give Special Olympic athletes the recognition they deserve, and to have THEM be the main focus of a large event while raising awareness for individuals with special needs and disabilities!
For the Special Spirit program, athletes will have the full experience of a college or professional game. For example, the athletes will have colorful flyers advertising before the event, they will be greeted with attractive posters and decorations for the game, announcer player introductions, special apparel to wear, cheerleaders, mascots, an exciting halftime show, and most importantly a packed gymnasium with fans just for them!
The money donated to this campaign will be used to fund the t-shirts for the athletes and spectators, food, and transportation for the athletes. All remaining funds will go to Special Olympics of Mass and Best Buddies at Northeastern.
