The Story :: Experiencing Shock for the First Time

Imagine it’s your first time eating the raved about crawfish on your vacation in New Orleans. The seemingly hundreds of baby lobsters to be bathed in a steaming bowl of rich butter. You take your first bite and your friends tell you that your face is starting to turn red…

You notice that those red spots are rather itchy and you can’t help but to scratch them. Then you notice how challenging it is to breathe. Wheezing in and out. With every breath it feels as though you are suffocating. Your stomach churns and tries to come back up. You feel the burn coming up from your esophagus into your throat again and again.

You don’t know what’s going on and you feel as though you will die if you do not receive any help in the coming minutes. Someone calls 911 and shortly after the EMT administers the epipen to save your life. You found out the hard way that you had a shellfish allergy.

Whether amongst family, friends, or on an individual basis - we all want the freedom to discover and the ability to never compromise what we think is best to put in our body. But for many of us, there isn’t an adequate amount of support to avoid bad foods and serious reactions.

In fact, over 100 million Americans pay close attention to the ingredients in the food that they eat. Many have food allergies/intolerances, celiac disease, diabetes, and other dietary restrictions that limit how they experience food. Others, that practice preference-based diets, are isolated within the same, unaccomodating commercial market of poorly labeled consumer goods, and irresponsible restaurants - wanting to discover more, but apprehensive in doing so and frustrated in how to learn more about what they can do.

This lack of resources leads to hospital visits, social isolation, and emotional burden to those who want to enjoy the social currency of food - just like everyone else.

Goal :: Fund Research + Build a Solution to Better Food Content Discovery

We are raising funds to support End Allergies Together and the Celiac Disease Foundation-Team Gluten-Free to advocate research to find a cure for food allergies and to help drive diagnosis and treatment of celiac disease through advocacy, education, and advancing research to improve the quality of life for all people affected by gluten-related disorders.

What's Our Motivation?

We are doing this to empower those with dietary restrictions so that one day we will all have the ability to enjoy the discovery and consumption of food.

In addition, we are using a portion of the funds to develop a platform that can best accommodate those with dietary restrictions and or preference based diets. The application is free to use and is called Nomsy.

What is Nomsy?

Nomsy is a community based platform that empowers customized food discovery centered around the way you live. The platform displays a customized view of articles, topics, recipes, and places based on the user’s dietary lifestyle to make the discovery of food and information much easier. Here's a sneak peak at the platform:

What Dietary Lifestyles Does Nomsy Support?
Nomsy will first support the Gluten-Free/Celiac, Nut Allergy, Dairy Allergy, Vegan, Vegetarian, Paleo, Weight-Loss, Organic, Local, Halal, and Kosher diets. But over time, we are looking to expand to even more!

Here's a demo of what the experience will look like!

Users are free to share their interests by hosting topics, saving articles, or asking questions. They can also view, comment, and upvote blog articles, recipes, and questions posted by fellow community members that share their same lifestyle. To learn more, please visit nomsy.co.

Join the Movement toward #FoodFreedom4All

Proceeds are being split 50/50 between building the Nomsy platform and providing funds for life saving research through the Celiac Disease Foundation - Team Gluten Free and End Allergies Together.

With your support, we can redefine the current reality of dietary restrictions and enable millions to enjoy what they eat like never before.
