Nomad’s Land is growing!

Asheville, NC has captured our thoughts, imaginations, and prayers for many years. And why not? It is one of the freak capitals in the U S. Situated in the beautiful Appalachians, it hosts a steady flow of backpackers, hippies, and train kids. We have always felt like it would be a strategic place to connect with the tribe the Lord has called us to run alongside, and recently we have pushed the accelerator because of two prophetic dreams.
Some background: we have friends who have been involved with the rainbow and traveler scene for many years and living all over Asheville. One dear friend, Pam Ames, had a dream about three years ago that “Nomad’s Land was in Asheville” and felt compelled to call and tell us (something that is not usual for her!) Then, last fall, during a recent visit from other Asheville friends, Sarah Martin shared a dream she had in which our crew moved next door to her family home. Well, that was interesting, because we had not yet shared with anyone that we were even looking at properties! Joshua shared pictures of a specific property we really liked online and were planning to check out. When Sarah saw the address her jaw dropped. She explained the property is not only located on their street but is only a couple doors down from them. Whoa! We got excited.
We looked into the place and found it to be a lovely, creative space with a similar vibe to Nomad’s Land! Then, weeks later, while negotiating with the realtors, a call came in from Mikey Sweet, who lives in Massachusetts. He told us the following story: One day his contractor boss told him about a group of Jesus Freaks trying to buy his property in Barnardsville, NC. Mikey asked for a name, since he is a fellow Jesus follower, and learned his boss was referring to our group and Joshua Hanson! The boss was surprised Mikey knew us and he was able to assure him that we were legit, good folks. What a small world! Between the dreams, and this connection between our friend and the land owner, we are even more confident about trying to acquire this particular property.
The property has two houses on 3+ acres and is a 25-minute drive North of Asheville. The vision for this property is to be a second place of hospitality/hostel, a unique outflow of what is happening at Nomad’s Land. We envision inviting travelers out for rest and refreshing, showers and meals while providing a place to build relationships and share the love of Jesus. We’d like to begin with regular feasts and parties for the houseless and street kids in downtown Asheville, which could start even before we’re ready to host folks at this new place!
If you would like to be a part of this dream and participate in any practical, spiritual, or monetary way, please message, text or email us! The owner has agreed to do a rent-to-own, for the 335K property, starting in January, and we have until August to come up with the down payment. We are trying to source monthly support, host fundraisers and also connect with people who would like to help us with the down payment. You could help us raise funds, aside from GoFundMe, by volunteering for us at events. We help ministries and non-profit groups do creative fundraising by working events.
