NJ Period Project
Donation protected
The NJ period project started as a small collection to provide a local food bank with enough pads and tampons to help out 10 women. My goal was just to supply enough for 10 women for one month. I reached that goal easily, now I am upping the ante for 2017. My goal is to supply 10 women with enough pads or tampons for an ENTIRE YEAR! UPDATE: We reached that goal too, so we've set the bar even higher!
THE FACTS:
On average a woman spends $120 a year on menstrual supplies. For low income and homeless women that price may as well be $1 million.
In her lifetime a woman will use over 11,000 pads or tampons.
Why not reusable? Many women living in poverty don't have access to free washing machines (which would be needed for reusable pads), and some don't have a reliable place to wash their hands before using a menstrual cup. Disposables are the most convenient.
Who will receive these products? I'm currently partnered with several food banks, emergency shelters and long term housing. For a complete list of recipients please email.
