Our nation has been a leader in global sports until the 1980s when the trend started taking a dip. As the years go by, situation is not improving. Since the 1996 Olympics, our fortunes has not been improving. Children and youths in Nigeria today can’t get half of the opportunities we had.

11 sports brands came under the auspices of the Nigeria Sports Development Fund Inc., which is the nation’s only private sector-based organization in the country. She was established in 1994 to fund the first World Cup qualifier. Thereafter, the non-for-profit organization has been working hard to make our nation’s sports better.

It is our ambition to set up 36 Community Sports Organisations. The first is named after Sydney Olympics Silver medallist in Weightlifting, Chief Ruth Ogbeifo-Balofin. It has commenced in Offa, Kwara State in January 2017.

Plateau State, a high altitude zone, will enjoy the first of six National Development Centre. Ekiti state will get the second.

We intend to raise funds for training the kids, buying equipment, training aids, building infrastructure, paying coaches salaries and allowances and establishing leagues.

To take adequate care of People With Disabilities (PWD), there has been set up an independent arm, the NIGERIA PARA-SPORTS DEVELOPMENT FUND, which will share in the proceeds of these donations.

Apart from this, we intend to use lottery and what is called Celebrity Endorsement, as well as, encourage citizen participation whereby we intend to make 10% of the nation’s people (16million) sign-up and follow the 10 icons we intend to build the club system around them. All these details are available on our website: www.nsdfi.net
