Nick Zolikoff's NZ Rugby Trip

Nick has been approached with an invitation to attend the Canterbury Crusaders' International High Performance Player Program in Christchurch, New Zealand this summer. The Crusaders world renowned rugby academy (IHPU) is also home to the BNZ Crusaders, one of 15 international teams of Super Rugby, the professional men’s rugby union. The highly regarded and successful Crusaders are on track, being undefeated this year, to win their 10th Championship title this season. Many All Black and international rugby players have attended the academy including Dan Carter and Richie McCaw.
Nick is planning to attend six weeks of the eight week high performance camp starting June 3. Nick will participate in daily training sessions at the Crusader facilities and play games with a local club team on Saturdays. Nick will be hosted by a family during his stay. Time will also be available to attend two Crusader home games as well as take in the sights of beautiful New Zealand.
Nick has had an exciting rugby career where he began playing as a freshman at Saint Ignatius High School under Coach Dan Arbeznik. He quickly moved up to Varsity and was part of two RugbyOhio State Championships and was elected as a captain his Senior year. Ignatius always played a demanding schedule giving Nick the opportunity to play against many nationally ranked teams and clubs. Nick experienced international rugby during a 2017 rugby tour in France and at the World School Rugby Festival in Cape Town, South Africa in April 2018. This fall Nick continued to play as a starting flanker for The Ohio State University Rugby team under Ron Bowers and Tom Rooney. Nick enjoyed the success and opportunity to compete in this year’s Big Ten Championship game with his teammates, and hopes to win the club's first Big Ten Title during his career at Ohio State.
