In October 2016, Nick's medal winning performance at the 2016 WorldSkills Australia National Competition earned him a place on the Worldskills Australia Skills Squad team among Australia’s best young skilled apprentices and trainees.

Nick, along with 17 of Australia’s current National Champions from their particular trade or skill has now been succesfully selected to join the elite *2017 Skillaroos forming part of Team Australia that will go on to represent Australia at the world’s largest vocational skills competition – the WorldSkills International Competition, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.

Nick is working tirelessly every day to reach his goal of winning the Gold Medal while representing his country in Abu Dhabi. Often referred to as the Olympic Games for Skills and Trades, the WorldSkills International Competition will see the world’s best trade young men and women, from 76 nations, compete in 50 different categories for the title of World Champion.

To ensure Nick has the best possible chance of winning a medal, he is now taking on an intensive training program and along with his mentors, category experts and a team of dedicated volunteers Nick will train and develop his skills, his decision making abilities and build the resilience needed to compete against the world’s best.

With your help we can provide Nick with the best possible opportunity to achieve his full potential, represent WorldSkills Australia at the International Competition in Abu Dhabi in October and come home with a medal.

ABOUT NICK:
Nicholas (Nick) has always had a passion for woodwork so when it came time to deciding to a career path Cabinetmaking seemed like a logical option. This decision was reinforced once he got to TAFE and he really enjoyed the course.

“Everything is different and challenging. I enjoy looking at the finished project and feeling like I have done something special,” he said.

Nick was introduced to WorldSkills through his TAFE lecturer and supported by his employer who was a past competitor. He has found the experience to be a really enjoyable challenge that it has encouraged him to push himself to be quicker and more accurate in the work he produces.

In addition to the new skills he is developing, Nick is also an enthusiastic supporter to encouraging more young people into learning a Trade

"Go for it! You've got nothing to lose and there's plenty of opportunities out there to find jobs and find something that you really enjoy. You get to learn while you work and also earn some money if you get into and apprenticeship so go for it get out there and try a skill or a trade!,” he said.

*2017 Skillaroos are champions chosen to represent Australia on the world’s trade and skills stage, and help to secure the future of the skilled Australian workforce.

** Australia is currently ranked 12th in the world and in 2017 we aspire to break into the top 10.
