Nicholas Hatem Appeal

Donation protected
Nicholas Hatem, 12 years old enjoys playing soccer, basketball, handball and online games with friends on play station.

Nicholas is diagnosed with LVNC left ventricular non compaction cardiomyopathy at Randwick children hospital.

On 8th May 2019 Nicholas was diagnosed with severe dysfunction of dilated cardiomyopathy and multilevel conduction disease.  After suffering a stroke, Nicholas presented with left side hemiplegia due to complete obstruction of right MCA( Middle Cerebral Artery)

Nicholas was transferred to Westmead Children Hospital on 13th May 2019 to 10th June 2019 where he was meant  to undergo a CRT Pacemaker.  But as his condition got worse and they assumed he might be at high risk of needing mechanical support and ECMO was flown by Royal doctors to Melbourne Children Hospital on 10th June 2019.

On the 26th June Nicholas underwent surgery for CRT Pacemaker for heart failure.  Nicholas nausea and vomiting was consistent, doctors advised other organs' showing signs of failure so thus opted for another emergency surgery.

On the 5th August 2019 Nicholas underwent another open heart surgery for Left Ventricular Assisted Device (LVAD) due to reaching end-stage heart failure which helps pumping chambers of the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body.

On the 27th August 2019 Nicholas suffered another stroke, neuroscientists retrieved 3 clots to his brain.  On the 28th August Nicholas woke up with headache after breakfast.  CT Scan showed Nicholas was haemorrhagic.  On the 29th August Nicholas underwent a brain surgery to release blood pressure.  He is paralysed again on the left side of the body.

At the minute Nicholas is undergoing treatment for stroke through neurology, physio therapy due to myocardial muscle dysfunction and Occupational Therapy.  With all the challenges and journeys Nicholas has overcome, he continues to stay strong and positive.  Whether you see Nicholas in his room or around the ward, he is always smiling and in good spirit.

Nicholas is an absolute miracle, a warrior and an inspiration to all who knows him.  As he always says, "I have battle scars to prove it".  Nicholas' parents have had to leave their own state, comfort, family and Nicholas' siblings to support him during this journey.

Kindly help support Nicholas and his family through this challenging time as bills, school fees, medical and travel expenses for siblings to see Nicholas still need to be paid.  Both mum and dad have been in hospital for about 4 months and will continue to be by his side for months to come.  Every donation and prayers is greatly appreciated no matter how big or small.
