Help rural kids finish high school

Donation protected

Please help kids get past grade 6 and finish high school.  The  Instituto Gaspar Garcia Laviana in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua urgently needs  a printer to continue Saturday classes for these kids that are unable to attend school during the week.
In rural Nicaragua, most high school-age kids have to work in agriculture, schools are too far away, and the cost is too high for families.  Yet, education is their best opportunity to climb out of poverty.

A San Juan organisation, Instituto Gaspar Garcia Laviana, has been providing Saturday classes to these kids for 17 years.  Rural children in the countryside around San Juan del Sur achieve high school graduation, and in many cases enter post-secondary studies at a nearby university.

The Institute is currently serving 75 rural students in two centers, Tortuga and Bernardino Diaz Ochoa, each about an hour from San Juan del Sur on rocky country roads. High school teachers spend their Saturdays there teaching the whole high school curriculum across all grades.

The Institute is a certified charitable organization and a government-certified distance education provider, but receives no government funding. They depend on donations from individuals and foundations to carry on their work.

The teachers are in dire need of a printer.  Funds raised will pay for a Canon MF 216n multifunction laser printer – $360 USD in San Juan del Sur – and a supply of toner cartridges and paper to last approximately two years.

$800 USD will cover their printing and photocopying needs for 2 years.  Please reach out and help this courageous and generous organization of Nicaraguan educators.
