Scoliosis Treatment

Donation protected
Back in 2008, I was diognosed with scoliosis (an abnormal curvature of the spine) by my primary care physician.  The Dr. sent a referral to a bone and joint specialist. This Dr. recommended that I wear a back brace to prevent the scoliosis from progressing. They recommended I wear it for a minimum of 8hrs a day but at this time, I was a competitive dancer - training 5-6 days a week, in addition to schooling, musical lessons, and other extra curricular activities, so the time commitment for wearing the brace wasn’t possible. So instead, the Dr. instructed me to wear the brace while I slept at night. This was extremely uncomfortable and didn’t seem to be very effective.
During this time, with my scoliosis consistently getting worse, the Dr. I was going to kept pushing the fact that I would need to get surgery to fix my spine. This surgery would involve fusing my vertebrae together. This, also, was not an option for me - what with needing mobility in my spine for dance.
After about 2 1/2 years of this routine, with the condition not improving and slowly getting worse and worse, per family members advice, I stopped going to this Dr.
Fast forward to 2018:
As of recently, the pain in my back has been almost unbearable so I began going to a chiropractor in my area. I’ve completed 24 appointments and was prescribed another back brace to wear throughout the day while at work. I’ve been consistantly wearing this brace and it, along with the chiropractic care, have significantly reduced my pain, and are slowly but surely reducing the curve in my spine and correcting the natural curve in my neck.
In order to continue to progress, I will need continuous and consistent chiropractic care. The cost for this care is not at all covered by my health insurance and needs to be paid out of pocket. Currently, I’m still paying the office monthly to finish paying off the cost of the back brace, and am unable to afford to continue care. My 4year old son was also going with me to the chiropractor as a preventative for him. I was told by the Dr. that the condition is not genetic, however, with my father and older sister also having milder versions of this condition, I wasn’t going to take any chances with my baby boy.

Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

God Bless,

Donna
