New World, New Music

Tax deductible
Hi, we are ICOA and we need your help to make our dream concert a reality!

In 2016, the New York Philharmonic reached out to us to see if we would like to join them in their year long celebration of Dvorak. We said yes and started brain storming ideas. A few months later, New World, New Music was born. Fast forward to now, we have booked the hall and long awaited concert will finally be here in March 2018!

About New World, New Music

Have you ever imagined you could “see” music? Let us show you in our upcoming concert – New World, New Music. We have commissioned renowned composer and native New Yorker Bruce Adolphe and visual artists James Rouvelle and Lili Maya, known as maya + rouvelle, to create an integrative arts experience that will be premiered by the ICOA. As the 45-piece orchestra plays, a performer wearing a VR headset will be traveling through and interacting within a virtual environment that is inspired by our home, New York City. The audience will see the virtual world through the performer’s eyes via a projection on a screen above the orchestra—a kind of virtual reality cinema. The projections will depict the roller-coaster reality of urban life in all its glamour and grit, reflecting the city's past and looking forward to the future. Other pieces on the program will be Dvorak's American Suite and Mendelssohn Violin Concert featuring Kevin Lin, co-leader of the London Philharmonic.

This project underscores the values of ICOA: collaboration, cultural exchange, and innovative performance. Our mission is to create quality Classical music experiences that are relevant to the 21st century audience. In the Season 2016-17, we have achieved our goals through engaging performances, interdisciplinary collaborations, and stimulating educational programs. We successfully reached out to over 3000 audiences of different nationalities and ages. We have also granted a total of $15,000 in scholarship to 15 aspiring young talents through our Artists for Tomorrow educational program. We need your help on this musical journey.
