Newmarket Syrian Refugee Family

A group of Newmarket residents has formed a committee and applied through Lifeline Syria to sponsor a Syrian Refugee Family in Newmarket.

The government requires that $27,000 for a family of four be raised in order to sponsor a refugee family. Groups of individuals across Canada are working to help bring refugee families from Syria to Canada – to bring them out of a land of desperation and war to a land of peace and opportunity.

This is Newmarket's chance to demonstrate what we already know - that we are a community based on values of inclusiveness, compassion, and generosity. We are asking the residents of Newmarket (and beyond) to contribute to our efforts in raising $27,000 to help a family escape a refugee camp and become part of the community of Newmarket and the Region of York.

As we approach Christmas, please consider making one of your gifts this holiday season a gift to a Refugee Family who is waiting and hoping and praying for news that a community has stepped up to help the family out of what must seem like a hopeless situation.

Please help us reach our goal quickly - your contribution of $50 or $100 or $500 may not mean a lot to you this holiday season, but it will mean a great deal to the members of a Syrian family in a refugee camp when they receive the news that the community of Newmarket and its friends are ready to sponsor them and welcome them to a new home and a new community.
