Newly Single Mother Supports Family After Tragedy

Donation protected
2018 was looking like it was going to be a great year for my sister Sarah ( a stay at home mom), her husband Tom of 19 years and 3 kids (15, 12, 9).  They had just bought a new house that they believed would be the family home for many years to come. Things changed quickly. On January 16, 2018 her whole world was turned upside down. Sarah learned that her husband Tom had committed a serious crime. While I won’t go into further details to protect the identity of the victim(s), suffice it to say, Sarah and her children were forced to leave him and their home behind that very day.

After a few months of staying with extended family, she was able to find a place to rent with the proceeds of the sale of their house. At this point her children had moved and changed schools multiple times during the school year. They drew down their remaining savings while she attempted to re-enter the workforce after nearly two decades. Two weeks ago, nearly a year after this all began, Sarah’s husband was sentenced to three years in prison. During this time the family will receive no child or spousal support payments and their health insurance coverage will end.

Having been a stay at home mom for so long means that Sarah has had to start from scratch and while she has been able to secure temporary work, she cannot yet earn enough to be able to fully support the family. While she gains experience and looks for a permanent position she needs help to make ends meet.

Sarah and the kids find themselves in a desperate situation. They’ve gone through their emergency savings.  She is waiting to see if she can receive government assistance but the process could take several months.  On top of all this, Sarah and the kids have to deal with Tom's betrayal.

This year has been one of forced change, incredible emotional lows, and most of all the fear of how this family will find ways to keep afloat.

We are asking for your help to provide some stability for this family and to take some of the burden off of Sarah's shoulders. Please donate to help Sarah and her three children pay their rent in 2019.
