This is David Samples and he needs a new heart. But unfortunately before he can get one he needs a device called a Left Ventricular Assist Device. To get one of these we have to travel from Bristol Va to Nashville Tn and live there for two months after surgery. To do this means having to take a leave of absence from my job to care for him full time, we, like most people live paycheck to paycheck so this is going to be difficult, this is where all our friends and family can help. We hate to ask for help but unfortunately it's time since David's life truly depends on it. So anything you can donate would be really helpful and greatly appreciated.

We will be leaving March 13th for Nashville. I will be admitted Monday via the cath lab after another right heart cath. If all goes well surgery is tentatively scheduled for March 16th.

Went and saw the doctors in Knoxville yesterday, they say that I am getting progressively worse and that if I dont have the surgery soon I will be to sick to have it. We got thrown another curve ball because our insurance is saying Vanderbilt is out of network and they wont pay for it. So on top of all that we are looking for another insurance provider before the first of the year. Finding a place to stay for 3 months is harder than it seems especially since it has to be furnished, handicap accessible and have a hard line for internet access so I can continue to work to have some income coming in. I Just wanted to thank everyone who has donated so far..this means the world to us and we appreciate it more than you will ever know. We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Okay so this news is not the best... we went back to Nashville yesterday to have a check up and they are telling us that David is getting worse, his kidneys aren't looking good due to all the extra fluid he is carrying. The doctor wanted me to give her a date to set for surgery..I told her that if finances weren't an issue I would admit him tot he hospital today but then where do I take him when he is discharged, how do I feed him and get him back and forth to Dr appointments. They have no answers as far as housing or anything to help but they say if we wait much longer he will be to sick for the procedure and then there is nothing they can do to help him.
I have been looking at places online to rent that are furnished for those 3 possibly four months and it is outrageous..we are looking at 2500 dollars a month. For people who live paycheck to paycheck this is unattainable...I don't want my husband to die just because we don't have the money to live down there for an undetermined amount of time. Its not fair and its very disheartening .. I am at a loss for now..really stuck between a rock and eventual death for David. IF anyone knows of a place for rent or someone who wouldn't mind two new roommates please let me know.

Hey Guys..well we went back to see the Vanderbilt Dr.'s
in Knoxville last week. They are still trying to battle the fluid that keeps gathering on David. WE have of course tried Lasix...which doesn't seem to be as effective anymore so they decided on another medication similar to Lasix. Since I couldn't go to the appt with David and my dad I facetimed while they were there to be included. Before leaving I asked the doctor if there were any side effects that I needed to be on the lookout for? I was told no it was just a stronger type of Lasix...cut to the next day and David having Hives break out all over his body! We immediately called the doctor and they advised to stop taking the new meds and go back to Lasix.
The fluid build up is the main thing we have to watch for on David because more fluid means his heart is getting weaker..we have to keep him as healthy as possible till we can raise enough money to live in Nashville for those three months. At this point we are racing against the clock it seems and the clock is winning!
