New Galaxy Records is the future of recording studios and record labels. Our mission is to provide helpful and professional services for all musicians, create a stronger local visual art and music community, and empower kids to create and record their own music. The company was created by Michael Matsakis (Composition and Music Technology student at Duquesne University), Ethan Baechtold (Jazz music and Entrepreneurship student at UNC Chapel Hill), and Owen Stone (Music Technology Student at UNC Asheville) in 2016.
We recently found an analog board—a top of the line board that would've cost $100,000 back in the day—for $5,000. We’ve already made $3,000 and need to raise the remaining $2,000. This is an extremely lucky find, and we may never get a chance this good again. The other $3,000 we are asking for will go towards a $2,000 Pro Tools system and nicer PMC studio monitors.
If you give, you will be investing in a business run by people that value music and human connection above all else. Our current and future business plans are to:
provide musical artists with an affordable and friendly recording environment free from stigmas and judgment; create an empowering learning experience for children and young adults who want to learn to record, write, or play music; open a small record store that promotes artists we record at our studio and other local studios, as well as hosting local visual artists' work to be sold; maintain a record label that makes affordable, high quality CD's and tapes for artists, as well as help with promotions and online presence; foster a community space for local musicians to socialize in hopes of creating new collaborations; and eventually, establish a non-profit that promotes artistic growth for children who are not able to afford music lessons or studio time.
We also plan on creating one or two yearly collaboration albums made up of local artists that meet at our events. The money made off of the albums and studio time will go to scholarships for children unable to afford our summer camp, lessons, or studio time.
We love all types of music no matter how weird or simple. This business will happen because not one of us could see ourselves doing anything else. We are motivated and ready to invest our lives into New Galaxy Records, and it starts with this board. The studio will be built around the board and grow into something beautiful for everyone. Music is an extremely important art and want to bring value and love back into the arts.
