Newbern family

Jacob Newbern and I have three beautiful daughters Braelynn(3), Kallie(10mnths), & Kinsley (10mnths).  On Nov 6th we went out to dinner and at dinner jacob said he was feeling abnormal so we decided to cut the night a little short. He was walking up stairs carrying the girls and said he almost collapsed because his legs started to feel like jello and pins and needles, he also wasent able to use the restroom for 24 hrs so we knew something was going on. As we sat in our room talking about what must be causing him to feel this way he told me his legs felt hot I told him that it was freezing In the room as he told me that it felt like the heater was on and blowing directly on his legs but it was actually 61 degree ac. So I decided to make him a warm bath thinking maybe he’s having weird cramps and stuff he got into the bath and once again temperature bothered him he said the hot bath felt like it was a bath of ice. That is when I started to worry and know something was up. Then came the leg spasms and he layed in bed that was the final sign to us something is definitely wrk g so I took him to the er. The next afternoon was when they couldn’t figure out what was going on because now he couldn’t move his legs and didn’t have feeling from below his belly button down to his feet so they ran a couple test 2 mri 1 ctscan and eventually they decided a emergency spinal tap was needed. After waiting for results we got news we never thought we would hear....we were told jacob has Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) which is a rare neurological disorder in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks part of its network of nerves located outside of the brain and spinal cord from some type of infection. They are treating him with antiobiotics and immunoglobulins to help treat this unfair sickness jacob is dealing with. Lately the days have gotten harder which have been expect he is now in the pcu unit which is the step below the icu so that he is being better monitored he is on and off of oxygen. The worst case is that he will have to have a breathing tube put in. All the prayers are need right now for a turn around so jacob can get to the recovering stage since it can take up to a year to rehab and walk correctly again. He was supposed to start a new jo. On Monday but the looks of that are not likely. Thankfully he will still have the job position when he is able to work but until then funds are def tight. We have had to put our pride to the side and set up this gofundme in order to help out with the day to day and medical bills to keep our family on track of getting jacob better and home. I’m so thankful for the friends and family that have been so encouraging for jacob to keep fight and for us to stay strong it’s overwhelming seeing how strangers are willing to pray and send well wishes. Every little bit helps us out during this time and I can not thank y’all enough for helping our family. With the holidays approaching I know money can be tight so even the littlest amount helps because it all adds up. God bless y’all and please keep sending the prayers also as we try to keep our faith in god that he has his hands on jacob and everything will be okay. Love everyone of y’all and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Update: they have started to do physical therapy on jacob still doesn’t have any movement except in his toes and the right side still doesn’t have any improvements. He was able to get up out of bed thanks to his physical therapist and a machine they use to lift him out of bed. Please keep sending prayers as they are helping some. Visiting and messaging/calling jacob does help with the mental part of this stage as it’s hard for him to think about walking and the girls.
