Having the ability to comfortably get around in a dependable vehicle is a necessity in life.

My name is Jesse Collens. Currently I'm a resident of Auburn Washington. I am raising money to purchase a new wheelchair accessible minivan.
My current vehicle has broken down, caused me extreme pain, I couldn't see anything out the windows, converse with anyone in the vehicle or make phone calls while driving.
Prior to my injury I had an amazing life. I was living in Anchorage Alaska, a place that was perfect for me. I have always been an outdoors lover and into extreme sports. I was a snowboarder, skateboarder, mountain biker and really enjoyed Frisbee golf. I was the assistant kitchen manager of a very popular restaurant, putting myself through school going for a degree in biology and chemistry, I had a lot of friends and an amazing girlfriend. Life was perfect!
In 2009 I had a mountain biking accident while attempting to do a front flip. As a result I suffered a C1 spinal cord injury.
For over 8 years now I have been living paralyzed from my neck down, I cannot hold my head up and I need to use a ventilator 24/7. It has been a very tough road dealing with all of the trauma of my accident but I can safely say that in the past 8 years I have really overcome some barriers. Some of you may know and others don't but to live with a high level spinal cord injury INDEPENDENTLY is a huge challenge, one that I have been working towards and getting a better handle on.

Thanks to an amazing support network I have been able to get back to living life, doing the things that I enjoy and making a difference in the world.
Getting a new minivan would greatly reduce my neck pain, provide me with a dependable vehicle to go to doctors appointments, support groups, social events, school and improve my quality of life overall.

My goal is to raise enough money to buy a new minivan as soon as possible because at the moment I do not have any transportation. Being stuck at home is starting to wear on my mental state. I have a history of depression and without the ability to leave my home I feel that depression rising. I am trying to deal with it as best as possible but it is not easy.

I would be extremely grateful and overjoyed for this dream of mine to come true! Thank you for taking the time to check out my fundraiser and please take 3 min. to watch my video.

Peace, love and coconuts!

It's happened, after 11 months I finally own my dream vehicle! Hmm... What to do first? I've already taken it for a short 500 foot drive from the dealership out to lunch. Headed up the street to a local pub and sing karaoke? I think so! It's time to check those things off my list, add more things to the list and get out and do them! Whee!

A very disappointing day.
I was supposed to be the first person to get a look at a van that was coming in for trade–in according to this salesman I was dealing with. He said according to Washington state law he could not shown me the vehicle until they had priced it. I told him that I would come in the next day with a deposit. I got a message this morning saying that they priced it late Monday afternoon and someone else came in and put a deposit down… Why didn't I get a phone call when they priced it?

I am on the hunt again!

Happy Mother's Day!

I logged in to GoFundMe and I have raised $5555, what a great number ha ha ha.

Today felt like a real summer day. The sun was up much longer than the past and it was 73°!
