New School of Music, Austin

Give the Gift of Music
You can help New School of Music provide music scholarships to underserved youth in your community.

About Us
The New School of Music in Austin, Texas is a nonprofit (501c3) community music school with a heart for sharing the gift of music with students of all ages, and in all styles of music.

We change lives through music.  Our teachers are highly credentialed music educators and performers, who share our passion for enriching the lives of our music students.  Over 2000 hours of music instruction to underserved youth have been led by NSM staff and guest instructors in our 3 ½ year history.

Our music programs include 4 co-located teaching locations (1 central, 3 east) and our annual Texas Jazz Camp -- in partnership with jazz sax great, Don Braden (former sideman with Wynton Marsalis, Freddie Hubbard, Tony Williams, Roy Haynes) and Litchfield Jazz Camp & Festival (one of the largest and oldest on the east coast).

Don Braden, a world-class jazz educator and performer, is the Music Director for both the Texas Jazz Camp in Austin, and the Litchfield Jazz Camp in Connecticut.    Don is a Harvard alumni who is based in the greater NYC area, and maintains an active jazz performance and touring schedule.

Matching Grant and Underserved Children’s Music Programs
We have received a matching grant of $9700 (from the City of Austin, Cultural Affairs Division) for our spring 2017 jazz workshops, concerts, and summer Texas Jazz Camp.   These events provide world-class jazz clinics for the kids and the public with NYC jazz great, Don Braden, and some of the finest jazz educators/performers in the Austin area.  Please help us raise the matching $9700 needed for this grant.

Additionally, we are in our 4th year of our underserved children’s music programs in the Austin area, in which our instructors teach in northeast Austin in 2 charter schools and 1 middle school – at no cost to the underserved children. The schools pay a small portion of the tuition fees, and we rely on donations for the remainder.  We are currently in need of $16,000 to help fund our ongoing underserved kids scholarship program for the 2016-2017 school year.

We are asking our supporters and advocates to please consider making a donation of any size to our program, which also provides merit and need-based scholarships.

Here are examples of what your tax-deductible donations will provide:
1/2 hour private music lesson:                  $30
1 hour private music lesson:                        $60
1 day of jazz camp:                                            $80
