New Hope Nepal

For many years now I have felt the urge to do volunteer work. Like most people though my life has been busy and I guess I just never got around to it. My desire was reawakened after talking to a friend this winter who described volunteer work as the most important thing he has done with his life. Shortly after this my good friend Lise told me about a mission trip to Nepal through her church. We would be going to Kathmandu and staying with a family that rescues girls from human trafficking. I had watched a documentary on this years back and knew instantly this was something I needed to do. Human trafficking is a huge problem in Nepal. Girls as young as 5 or 6 are kidnaped or sold by their families, like their fathers and uncles. I really can’t think of anything more awful to happen to a young girl.

I was a bit apprehensive because as an overly empathetic person I didn’t know how I was going to handle seeing the aftermath. I could only imagine how traumatized these girls would be. I was overwhelmed and overjoyed by what I saw when I got there. We were greeted with warm smiles and open arms. The girls who ranged from age 7 - 14 had so much spirit and warmth that I was truly blown away. It didn’t really make any sense to me until I had spent some time with them and realized how incredible this new life was that was given to them. Pastor Dhru and Goma are a couple that have dedicated their life to saving these girls and giving them the best life possible. They have provided a safe and loving home for them to grow up and thrive in. They have selflessly given everything to this cause and what a difference it’s made.

I came back to Winnipeg and couldn’t stop thinking about them and what I could do to help. So I came up with this. I am putting on a fundraiser where I will attempt to play 100 holes of golf (approx 5.5 rounds) in a single day. With a normal round taking on average 4 hours this will be quite the feat. This will take place at Assiniboine Golf Course on July 9, 2018.  I am asking that people sponsor me for what ever they can spare. Our dollar goes a long way out there and even the smallest amount will help. This cause is very close to my heart as I’ve seen first hand how much good this family is doing.

Your support is appreciated more than you’ll know. Please feel free to visit their website to learn more about them! www.newhopenepal.com

100% of money donated goes directly to the family. Receipts will also be given for donations over $20.
