New Home for Red Sky Stage

$2,000 of $1,000 goal

Raised by 44 people in 22 days
On Good Friday, my landlord notified me that he is  evicting my performing arts venue, Red Sky Stage from its location in Downtown Petoskey, Michigan.   Yelling at me on the phone, he told me to move out because I have been hosting 2 weekly recovery meetings for people with alcohol or drug addictions.  I told him I would remedy whatever actual problems these groups were causing but he yelled back at me that there is nothing to fix, just get out.

I am working very hard every day to arrange for a new location nearby.  The current location, 445 E Mitchell St remains open for the time being and continues to provide area residents with a wide ranging schedule of concerts, open mics, events, community meetings, music lessons and a variety of other events that serve the community.

I expect to be evicted soon and need money to help rent and equip a new location, move, and make modifications and improvements to the new location.

The need for funds is immediate as I have about a month to move out.  Your support will make it possible to reopen Red Sky Stage as soon as possible so that. like the current Red Sky Stage, it can be an excellent, intimate  coffee house style concert venue with top quality, warm sound that serves the  community in many ways, including  continuation of our hosting of weekly recovery meetings.

It has been my pleasure and honor to provide Petoskey and the surrounding area  with a venue for entertainment and community events.  I am deeply grateful for the outpouring of community support I have received since the eviction was announced and will be thrilled with any financial help you can provide at this challenging time.

in addition to my thanks, I will provide all donors with a voucher redeemable for two tickets to any  Red Sky Stage event at the new location, two similar vouchers for any contribution over $50 and two Golden Ticket to all future events at the new facility to the person who makes the largest contribution.

Thanks everyone! Together we have now hit double our original goal plus I have received $350 additional offline. Combined with the hundreds of positive comments I have received in person, this support is truly humbling and shows incredible support for the importance to the community of the wide range of activities at Red Sky Stage.

The search for a new location continues in earnest. Unfortunately so must my efforts to move out of the current location as soon as possible. Today we are taking apart the stage and moving out the microphones and other sound equipment. Fear not, it is all going to places where it can be quickly retrieved to create the new Red Sky Stage.

Also, I have reached out to my former landlord, Chris Redding to see if there is any possible way to remedy the situation and stay in the current location. He has flatly rejected any further discussions. Significantly, in the month since I received the eviction notice, there have been no complaints from any of the neighboring businesses or anyone else, other than the landlord, about the folks in the recovery groups that have continued to meet here twice a week or of any of the other musical and community events at Red Sky Stage.

Thanks again for all your incredible support. Stay tuned for further progress. I look forward to seeing you all at the new Red Sky Stage

Thanks to your amazing generosity, you have exceeded our initial goal of $1,000 in a couple of days. This a significant step towards securing a new home for Red Sky Stage. I greatly appreciate all you have done to help bring great performances and community events to Northwest Michigan.

As everyone who does business in our resort town knows, this is the absolute worst time of the year to have all of this happen. Like most other local businesses, Red Sky Stage is just finishing the winter season of scraping by on the revenue from last summer. I am now forced by the eviction to find new money for rent and a security deposit and for creating an excellent new environment for music, dance, entertainment and community service.

I will be keeping this campaign open for a bit longer and will keep you updated on our progress towards making a new home for Red Sky Stage. If you have already contributed, know that I truly appreciate your support. Now, please do what you can to make your friends and social media contacts aware of this GoFundMe campaign. I am deeply grateful for your support.
