NEW FERRY EXPLOSION

Donation protected
Following the huge explosion which ripped through New Ferry on Saturday 25th March, the affected families, children and animals of New Ferry still really need your help.

The explosion, centred at the corner of our busy shopping district and within a residential area of historic Port Sunlight, caused serious injuries to people and pets, and widescale destruction and damage to properties even more than a mile away. The explosion was so massive and so fierce, that it destroyed all of the immediate buildings and caused major structural damage over a vast area. Many of those buildings were people’s homes right next to the blast site, homes which included small children and family pets. Most of those made homeless by the blast are still living in temporary accommodation such as on family sofas, in hostels and in B&B facilities and the like. Nothing permanent has yet been found. Most of these places don’t allow animals, and so almost all of the displaced family pets who have been recovered are being cared for by volunteers.

There is hope that long term support will come from central and local government for regeneration of the area, but in the meantime, there are still so many people and animals who need your help, and every penny counts.

It buys second-hand toasters and full-sized kettles for those families having to live in B&B with only take-aways & travel kettles to provide food & nourishment. It buys food for the scared and helpless pets - animals that bolted from fright at the time, some of whom are still running stray from fear (we are putting food out for all of them). It buys furniture and fridges for those who have had to move back into empty almost derelict homes, for whom their landlords may have provided no insurance for their personal belongings, yet still charge rent.

We can’t stress enough how every penny counts. Your donations will go directly toward helping people and animals who really are in need of immediate help. So please, even if it’s only a pound, please donate now as every penny counts, and every penny is appreciated beyond words by those who receive it. This was such a random event, it could have been any of us who found ourselves in exactly this situation…. these dire circumstances faced by these families and these beloved family pets.

We thank you so much for your help, Paula xxx
