Nevaeh’s Fight Against Lymphoma

This is my 15 year old daughter, Nevaeh. In October 2017, we discovered enlarged lumps in her neck. At this time she was diagnosed with a minor infectious disease. She was prescribed an antibiotic and sent home. Over time more lumps appeared and Nevaeh began to have pains in her neck and back. Nevaeh’s health became more concerning to doctors once her blood tests started to come back abnormal.

In the past two months, Nevaeh has had ultrasounds, X-rays, CT scans, and several biopsies. Just this week (5/10/2018) it was confirmed that my daughter has Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in her neck and throughout her chest. 

Before Nevaeh can start Chemo she must first undergo a surgery to remove her eggs. Treatment for cancer can potentially affect women’s fertility and we want to ensure motherhood would still be a possibility for Nevaeh’s future. 

Although Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a highly treatable cancer, Nevaeh will undergo chemotherapy for 4-6 months. If the cancer doesn’t respond well to chemo, Nevaeh will then start radiation. The average cost of these treatments can range anywhere from $10,000 to $200,000. While insurance will helps cover some of the costs, there will be many out of pocket expenses throughout treatment.

Nevaeh will begin treatment right before her Sweet 16th birthday on June 1st. Although Nevaeh will be receiving chemo on her birthday instead of a new car she has remained very optimistic and maintained a very postive outlook on the whole situation. With her chemo, she will endure hair loss. Nevaeh has been modeling for two years and wants to use this experience as a way to share her story and help others feel beautiful through their journey.
