Nepal Earthbag School Rebuild

Donation protected
The Sustainability House team will again be joining First Steps Himalaya in October 2017 to assist in their Earthbag School Rebuild Project.

The project aims to rebuild part or wholly damaged schools using earthbag building technology in Nepal's Sindhupalchok district.

Why earthbag buildings?
Earthbag buildings tend to flex and distort during an earthquake rather than suddenly collapse as wood framed, adobe, brick and concrete block structures do. Barbed wire and plaster mesh hold the bags together in case of collapse, thus greatly reducing risk of people getting crushed. Building with earth bags can be done for a low cost, and requires less skilled labour than traditional masonry construction, allowing community volunteers to help. They are constructed using local, natural materials, which lowers the high level of pollution commonly associated with the manufacture and transportation of bricks.

All funds raised will go directly to First Steps Himalaya on behalf of our team to cover costs directly associated with build materials and resources for volunteers.

All donations are greatly appreciated and we can't wait to show you the direct effect your contribution has on the community come October!

Thanks,
Mark, Karina, Mitch, Hayley, Rob, Hannah, Daniel, Matt, Alex, Eddie and Jeremy.
