Greg Fuhrmann suffered a catastrophic stroke in April of 2015, at the young age of 54. He was in a coma for approximately 2 months and was given little to no chance of recovery. He underwent a decompressive craniotomy, in which a portion of his skull was removed to allow his brain to swell. Through modern medicine, and the power of prayer, Greg awoke from his coma in time to see his youngest son get married in the chapel of Sister’s Hospital. However, he was paralyzed; able to move only his eyes and face. He could speak, but only a few faint words. His doctors were amazed that he pulled though such a severe cerebral accident and gave his family and friends little hope of any quality of life.

Greg Fuhrmann is a fighter. His recovery has been slow and painful, but he has made progress with every passing day. His free spirit which loves life could not be extinguished, and his personality remained unaffected by his injuries. From hospitals to nursing homes, Greg remained positive and determined to recover. He learned that he would soon be a grandfather and that ignited an unwavering motivation to get better. Slowly his motor skills began to find new connections; his speech improved, and he reclaimed some ability to move his right arm. With exhaustive hours upon hours of painful rehabilitation, Greg was strong enough to return home to his family.

Greg is not the only one who has suffered during these trying months. His family has been blindsided with staggering medical bills, incompetence on the part of nursing homes, and a lack of cooperation by the insurance companies. They risk losing the home they have dedicated their lives to building. They have fought tirelessly to bring Greg home, where the real healing can happen. The house that Greg built himself 28 years ago needs major modifications. While he continues to heal, he is bound to a wheelchair and totally dependent on others to care for him. Greg has spent nearly 35 years working at the Western New York Developmental Center, caring for individuals with disabilities very similar to what he faces today. He is truly an exceptional person.

Any monetary donation you can provide will go to ease the overwhelming financial strain this medical emergency has placed on Greg and his family. They are in desperate need of funding as the medical bills continue to pile up. Your kindness is eternally appreciated.
