Hello-
My name is Mike Thompson, a 12 year resident of Central Avenue, in Abington's Ward 6.
In the 12 years that we've been here, quite a bit has happened. In 2008, we saw the Great Recession set in, which lead to a number of foreclosures in the area (one right next door to us). We've also seen the economy bounce back and grow again. With a return to prosperity, it is time to push Ward 6 further down the road of improvement. While we are seeing an increase in crime, greater community involvment may be enough to deter, and make our community safer. Building up a North Hills Civic Association may encourage this participation, ultimately building a community that is neighborhood engaged, and business friendly.
Personally, in our 12 years here, my wife and I have become parents. This has changed our community outlook greatly. We've realized that its time to push for traffic calming measures within our neighborhoods, to keep our children safe, and to make Ward 6 more pedestrian friendly, so our neighbors can safely walk to the regional rail stations, or walk their children to the local parks and playgrounds.
Professionally, the last 12 years of my career have lead me into doing architectural work in the public sector, working with local school districts and universities to plan for their future, maximize their efficiencies, and ultimately improve the quality of their product- a great education for those that want one. My experience in public sector procurement can be beneficial for the township, as I will work to find ways to more efficiently spend the tax dollars that Abington collects.
I sincerely thank you for your consideration in donating to my campaign. The money will be used to spread the word that I am dedicated to serving Ward 6, through signage, leaflets, and social media postings. This election will not be an easy one, but I am positive that together, we can win this, and with that win, I can provide a more proactive approach that ulimately serves to benefit our ward.
